An All-America swimmer in college, Smiley has been in the fitness business since 2002 when he went to clients homes to provide physical training. He opened his first fitness center in 2006 in Excelsior. All five will remain open under the new arrangement with Snap Fitness. Smiley called Taunton the most successful fitness entrepreneur on the planet. Personal-training services are not cheap, but packages can be designed to make it more affordable. Steele Fitness charges $60 to $90 an hour for personal attention but as little as $20 an hour for group sessions.

Tabley, 32, started pole dancing two years ago. 'It's not seedy,' she says. 'That's a male reaction.' She seems a very conscientious mother. She lives in a three-bedroom townhouse and she has another daughter, Coby, 11, who has autism and cerebral palsy. In addition to being Coby's full-time carer, Tabley has started a degree in learning disability nursing and social work at Salford University. Within eight weeks of Tabley taking up pole dancing, Holly asked to come too. 'She wanted to try it because Mummy was doing it,' says Tabley.

The company also has gyms in Bordentown and Franklin. The gym will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, according to the company website. It will offer strength and cardio equipment as well as various classes.
