During my third morning run to this newly-improved (questionable) playlist, I came to the realization that as much as I was trying not to love this song, it was resonating with me -- and not for a bad reason: I'm drawn to empowering and motivating lyrics when I run , and when I'm running, I actually can't and won't stop. That Miley, she was onto something! I dug around the rest of my music library and realized this "can't stop, won't stop" mentality is actually pretty regular for me. Here are a few others I like, although I hadn't necessarily run to all of them. Now, thanks to my brand new Can't Stop, Won't Stop playlist, I sure will.

Ever since I started this fitness gear column for the Los Angeles Times in 2002 now up to 280 of them my son, Joey, has helped me test pull-up bars, elliptical machines, pole-driven skateboards, Trikkes, mountain bikes, golf Frisbees, mini-snow sleds, bodysurfing hand-planes, five-toed running shoes and more. At 7, Joey was my stoker on the back of a $600 Raleigh Companion kid-friendly tandem, which I then bought and rode him to school and back on every day until eighth grade, when he told me it wasn't Shin Ohtake Max Workouts review cool anymore. A tech-obsessed cross-country runner who conveniently shared my shoe size, he joined me at fitness shows and new-product introductions (where he'd introduce himself as my "intern") and was my teammate at mud runs, in stair-climb races, during stand-up paddleboard yoga and on other assignments. All the while, he was unaware that I'd cleverly kept him working out and away from his Playstation as much as possible. Before he left, Joey helped test this week's gear stuff well-suited to working out in his dorm room, 2,000 miles to the east. When he promised that he'd use it often and wouldn't fall prey to the dreaded "freshman 15," I got a little emotional.

Study says CrossFit workouts boost aerobic fitness, decrease body fat

Now, a study at Ohio State University confirms what CrossFit fans have been saying all along that the high-intensity power training workouts can dramatically improve aerobic fitness and body-fat composition. According to the 10-week OSU study (via RealClearScience Aug. 20), male and female participants who did CrossFit , a strength and conditioning program that combines weightlifting, sprinting and body-weight exercises done at high intensity, achieved significant improvements in aerobic capacity and body fat. The study tracked 54 participants who did weight-lifting moves such as the squat, dead lift and overhead press performed at high intensity with extremely short rest intervals in between sets. The research showed that all of the participants improved their aerobic fitness, decreased body fat and gained lean muscle.
